A Look Back At Thierry Henry’s Magical Loan With Arsenal

Thierry Henry changed the landscape in Arsenal by his mere presence alone. His leadership and stature added a certain calm to a side desperately searching for an identity.

The fact that he scored a few goals wasn’t so bad either.

Today, the fairytale ended on a down note. A driven AC Milan ran Arsenal out of town, dismantling the Gunners 4-0 in this first leg of the Champions League Round of 16. Henry came in as a second half substitute; his final appearance in an Arsenal kit. Down 2-0, the hope was he could pull out one last bit of magic to save his team as he had done twice in the past six weeks. Before the French legend could lay his stamp on the match, however, Robinho would go on to beat Koscielny and Szczesny in the 49th minute to practically gift wrap and seal a victory.

Though not exactly the kind of exit he would have hoped for, Henry did have a memorable spell for Arsenal in his short six weeks. From his game winning notch against Leeds, his memorable connection with Robin van Persie and his final game winner against Sunderland in front of the Emirates faithful, it would be safe to assume the Gunner’s legend delivered beyond the club’s expectations.
