Red Bulls logoIf a second exclamation point was needed to a weekend in Red Bull Land, it came Sunday night when defender Kemar Lawrence propelled Jamaica into the CONCACAF Gold Cup final against the United States with a wonderful free kick to beat Mexico at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

Of course, the weekend began with the Red Bulls getting goals from three different players — Daniel Royer, Sacha Kljestan and Bradley Wright-Phillips — in the Land of 10,000 Lakes to thump expansion Minnesota United, 3-0.

Sandwiched between them was the incredible, humorous, oh-so-New-Yorkish outburst by the former Red Bulls coach and current Real Salt Lake coach, Mike Petke, who did perhaps the best show-and-yell in league history. (Discipline? Watch this space.)

So let’s go to the videotape. …

Lawrence Buoys Reggae Boyz

With the Gold Cup semifinal seemingly headed for the penalty-kick shootout (there is no 30-minute extra-time period until the final), Lawrence buried a stunning free kick to oust Mexico and send Jamaica to its second-straight tournament final. That game will be played at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., against the U.S. on Wednesday night.

‘Mike America Great Again’

The RSL coach, shall we say, let it all hang out Saturday night after a raucous 1-1 tie against Sporting Kansas City in which the native Long Islander was ejected in the 72nd minute. Vintage Petke. Instant Internet star!

Below is a pretty humorous and different take on his postgame outburst, which was put together by Jason Puckett. It also made a star of the team’s long-time PR guru, Trey Fitz-Gerald.
