New York City FC have got their man.

Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense have confirmed the transfer of Costa Rican left back Rónald Matarrita.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Matarrita, 21, will fly to New York on Tuesday to join the team before they travel to Florida for the beginning of training camp. Although terms of the transfer were not officially disclosed, reports from Costa Rica indicate that NYCFC will pay a fee in the area of $500,000 with a sell-on clause included in the agreement.

The signing fills NYCFC’s need for a left back after Angelino’s loan expired. Matarrita made 67 appearances for Alajuelense dating back to 2013-14. He started each of Costa Rica’s last two World Cup Qualifiers at left back, earning high marks for his efforts in their 2–1 win against Panama in November. He can also contribute to the attack, having scored four times in his career.

Alajuelense club president Raul Pinto said NYCFC sporting director Claudio Reyna and another club executive negotiated the transfer at head coach Patrick Vieira’s request.
