A relatively quiet half season at New York City FC didn’t do much to harm the legendary status of Andrea Pirlo in the eyes of his peers.

That is evident after the 36-year-old regista made the 55-player shortlist for the FIFPRO World XI voting.

Each year, players from around the world gather to nominate a World Best XI. Last year’s voting brought about a team consisting of Manuel Neuer, Philipp Lahm, David Luiz, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, Andrés Iniesta, Toni Kroos, Angel di Maria, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Arjen Robben.

This year, a record 25,000 players from 70 different countries participated to bring forth this 55 name list which includes Pirlo, who spent half a season with NYCFC and the other with UEFA runner-up, Juventus. Pirlo earned two assists in 13 appearances with NYCFC and added four goals and five assists in his final season with Juventus.
