New York Cosmos sign Andres Flores from Turín-FESA Fútbol Clube

After a half-year loan with the New York Cosmos, El Salvadorean international Andres Flores wanted more.

Now, he will have it.

The Cosmos announced the full on acquisition of Flores from Turín-FESA Fútbol Clube.  Details of the deal were not disclosed.

“We’re delighted to bring back Andrés to our squad,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said in a club statement. “He’s a key player for the El Salvador national team and his pace and ability provides us with another attacking threat.”

Flores had limited time to mesh with his teammates after a late summer acquisition. International friendlies also stretched his availability, allowing the San Salvador native only eight appearances with the Cosmos, earning a single goal and assist in that time. Those international call-ups will surely continue as Flores is the current El Salvador captain.

No matter how limited a time with his new team, Flores was able to mesh well with his mates, becoming a bright contributor on and off the field.

“I really enjoyed my stay with the team last season,” Flores said. “It’s a great coaching staff with an attacking philosophy and I had very good chemistry with my teammates. Coming back to New York permanently was something that I was always wanted to do.”

TEAM NEWS, NOTES

  • St. John’s product Jimmy Mulligan returns to the club, signing a contract extension. He appeared in two matches for the club this season.
  • Oft-injured spark plug Diomar Diaz will not return for 2015.

    Diaz should have come back

Do you know why the Cosmos chose not to keep Diaz? I thought he was easily one of our best attacking midfielders.

  • Gerard

What about Jemal Johnson he brought a significant boost of the bench for the cosmos in last minute situations in games. I think it was a mistake dropping him.
