The New York Cosmos have secured another veteran to return for the 2017 North American Soccer League Season.

This time, attacking midfielder Andres Flores is the player who put pen to paper to come back and play for the team under new majority owner Rocco B. Commisso.

“I’m very happy to be back at the Cosmos. This is a historic club and it means a lot to be part of it,” Flores said.

Flores first joined the Cosmos on loan from Turín-FESA in hist native country midway through the 2014 NASL season. He recorded just one goal and one assist that first year, but impressed enough to sign a permanent contract with the Cosmos in the offseason. The 26-year-old has rewarded that confidence over the last two seasons by notching seven goals and nine assists to helps the Cosmos claim back-to-back Soccer Bowl titles.

“Andrés had a wonderful season last year,” said Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese. “He is a talented young player who has consistently shown his quality and versatility within our midfield. We are looking forward to his contributions this season.”

With Flores wearing the captain’s armband, El Salvador finished third in this year’s Copa Centroamericana this past weekend in Panama. Flores provided the assist on El Salvador’s lone goal in a critical 1-0 win over Nicaragua. The third-place finish clinched a spot for El Salvador in this summer’s CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Flores is the seventh player from last year’s championship squad confirmed to return for the Cosmos in the new year. Captain Carlos Mendes, David Ochieng, Ryan Richter, Eric Calvillo, Jimmy Mulligan and Kyle Zobeck are all set to return, but other returnees are a possibility. EoS reported last week that the Cosmos were in talks to re-sign left back Ayoze and keeper Jimmy Maurer, who were both also fielding interest from MLS teams.
