EOS Awards ’14: Cosmos Defender, Midfielder, Striker of the Year

For the second year in a row, EOS has gathered the staff for our end of year awards.

This year, we start with the New York Cosmos.

Things began on a promising foot for the defending Soccer Bowl champions.  Missing the Spring Championship by a single point and demolishing the New York Red Bulls in the U.S. Open Cup served as a promising open for their regular season and tournament aspirations.

Then, injuries and key roster departures took hold.  Marcos Senna picked up a devastating knock that would hamper his season. Alessandro Noselli left the team, leaving Mads Stokkelien without a consistent striking partner.  Roversio missed significant time.  Connor Lade proved a revelation — until the Red Bulls called him back.

While they made the playoffs, New York fell short to San Antonio; a fitting end to a year of ‘almosts.’

Through it all, there were consistent contributors to the team that deserve recognition — and EOS is here to give it.  Here are this year’s best defender, midfielder and striker:
