New York Red Bull II suffered their first loss of the season, falling to the Charlotte Independence 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Red Bull Arena.

A disjointed start combined with defensive lapses put New York down early and they were never able to recover despite strong spells of possession.

The first half was rough defensively for New York as Charlotte pressed and took advantage of a Red Bull team with several significant lineup changes. Gideon Baah, on loan from the Red Bull senior team, had a very rough half as his rehab start was mired by mental lapses. First, he failed to pick up on Enzo Martinez after a cross found him in the box for his third goal of the season. The second was a clearance in the box that he missed, allowing Patrick Slogic to score off of the loose ball.

New York rebounded in the second half after an unusual defensive substitution that saw Stefano Bonomo make his first appearance at centerback. The move, combined with more sustained offense, kept the Independence from expanding their lead, but New York couldn’t find a way back into the game.

New York takes to the road next Saturday night against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

  • slowleftarm

Strange headline but it looks like Baah picked up right we he left off pre-injury.

I have seen both Cosmo B and RB b team and the quality is surely with Cosmo B at this point. that’s a quality side.

And then people get upset when I post on Cosmos articles.

Yes, we have the best B team ever. I am proud of what our B team has accomplished. we are the best. Better than all the C team, better than all the B teams, and dare I say it, better than all the A teams!
      We are the best!

        That gave me a boner.
