After eight long years with Aston Villa in the Premier League, United States International Brad Guzan has elected to join newly-promoted English side Middlesbrough.

Few details of the move were announced. However, it was revealed that Guzan’s deal will last for a total of two years, keeping the USMNT star with the club until 2018.

Middlesborough head coach Aitor Karanka has already signed former Barcelona and Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes this summer, suggesting that the United States starter will have to fight for minutes this season.

Guzan has been a rock for both Aston Villa and the United States National team, but, due to Aston Villa’s relegation, the 31-year-old elected to leave the plummeting club in search of a better situation elsewhere.

The Illinois native originally joined Aston Villa in 2008 after enjoying a successful three years with former MLS club, Chivas USA. Upon joining Aston Villa, Guzan made 144 appearances for Villains, gaining global notoriety for his success. Recently, he started for the U.S. National Team during the Copa America tournament. He has earned 50 caps with the USMNT.
