Bradley Wright-Phillips named MLS Player of the Week

Bradley Wright-Phillips was involved in all three goals during the New York Red Bulls’ demolition of rival DC United this weekend — and MLS has taken notice.

After his two goal, one assist performance at Red Bull Arena — an output that has the Red Bulls one point away from DC United at the top of the East with three games in hand — the younger Wright-Phillips has earned MLS Player of the Week honors.

Wright-Phillips began the onslaught in the first half at Harrison, sending a perfect through ball on to an awaiting Lloyd Sam for the game’s first goal. Later, Wright-Phillips nailed a one-time, mid air blast from a laser feed from Mike Grella to double New York’s lead. The Englishman capped off the night in the 64th minute, burying a Kljestan service for the final goal of the evening.

Wright-Phillips now leads the team in goals (13) and is second in Red Bulls’ assists (7).

Here is footage of the match — including the Red Bulls red-hot Designated Player putting in work:

Damn straight. I’m a major contributor to MetroFanatic and admittingly I got my panties in a bunch with the Mike Petke thing, but these guys have been playing well and BWP showed he was much more then a recipient of the Henry feeder system.

My attention span stretches to a maximum of a half year, and although Red Bull ownership has shown itself to be consistently full of faults in many areas, this recent run of good form on the field means that the rest of that didn’t happen, it’s inconceivable that such things would happen again, and that we couldn’t wish for better owners. I also think I remember that attacking fellow supporters makes you a bigger supporter?

Attacking like the Red Bull Out movement? If you go to our MetroFanatic board, albeit everyone’s still “butt” sore from not being asked if they could fire Petke (like they do anywhere else in the world), the complaints now talk about lunch trucks and poor people stuff. So yeah, my tampon got stuck real hard in my crawl space because of Petke, but as you will see, we just will find something else to complain out. It’s what we do. It’s what makes us attractive.
