Red Bulls’ Sal Zizzo out 2-3 months

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The New York Red Bulls have relied on both Mike Grella and Sal Zizzo to fill in their void at left midfield.

Now, the duo affectionately known as “Grizzo” will be missing half their compliment.

According to a club spokesman, midfielder Sal Zizzo suffered a training ground injury this past Friday, fracturing his tibia.  As a consequence, the San Diego native will be out of action for the next 2-3 months.

Zizzo’s absence puts the onus of the left sided attack on Grella. A career forward, Grella has filled in admirably on the left in the early going of the season, scoring two goals and adding an assist to his ledger. Zizzo may not have put up the same kinds of numbers and minutes as his counterpart, but has been equally invaluable in serving as a change-of-pace bench option for the club.

In an interesting twist, Zizzo played a part in the budding NYCFC rivalry long before the season started. The former Sporting Kansas City midfielder was picked up through the expansion draft by the Red Bulls’ Bronx rivals, quickly finding himself across the river after a trade for goalkeeper Ryan Meara, who is with NYCFC on a season long loan.

Fantastic…Maybe now we’ll think about upgrading our LW position. I still want Lukas Podolski!

Sammy Ameobi’s contract at Newcastle United is ending.

Looks like we know what position our potential DP this summer will be.

  • They are not picking up a DP. They have the Great Dane….why look further….
