MLS All-Star roster changes: Bradley, Gerrard, Keane drop out

MLS Writer

Citing injuries, several players previously slated to face Tottenham Hotspur as MLS All-Stars Wednesday night have opted not to participate. In their place are lesser known players who nonetheless deserve all-star recognition.

Michael Bradley, Steven Gerrard, Chris Tierney, and former Tottenham striker Robbie Keane have all dropped out of the All-Star lineup. Sebastian Giovinco is reportedly questionable to participate; he’s dealing with a minor heel injury suffered on Saturday.

In turn, Gyasi Zardes, assist leader Ethan Finlay, Waylon Francis, Juninho, and Colorado midfielder Sam Cronin will join the All-Star squad. Cronin is the second Rapids player on the squad, joining Drew Moor in being able to play the All-Star Game at his home stadium.

After much was made about Don Garber’s selection of Gerrard and Frank Lampard as all-stars, neither will actually play in the game. Lampard was previously replaced by Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty, and has yet to play for NYCFC.

It is pretty ridiculous, but these events always give extra spots to the local team’s players, even if they are bad.
