It is safe to say that NYCFC had themselves an eventful MLS SuperDraft. The third-year MLS club found themselves trading a substantial amount of cash in multiple directions with the hope of signing their main targets.

As the draft ceased and the newly picked players headed to New York, many fans were left scratching their heads as to who their club just spent large sums of money for.

NYCFC’s preseason camp has only just begun, and with that, a chance to take a look at these youngsters. With that being said, EOS has reached out to the draftees recent university coaches for a statement on what to expect from each player.

This is what they had to say:

University of New Hampshire head coach Marc Hubbard on Chris Wingate:

“Very efficient MF who is very good in possession and protection of the ball…a righty…good back to goal and can shift defenders well.  Very fit and tactical. More of a box to box player but can play holding MF as well.  Quicker and stronger than he looks. A model person and character…will be a great team and locker room player. Plays better when the level is higher…will always rise to the occasion.”

Louisville University head coach Ken Lolla on Michael DeGraffenriedt:

“Michael is a very athletic defender with excellent instincts. He is a competitor and a winner.”

University of Akron head coach Jared Embick on Jonathan Lewis:

“He is a fast and quick 1v1.  Excellent work rate. Can play right or left wing.  Will need some tactical work on movement but will be able to help open the game up with his speed and 1v1 ability.”
