Are New York City F.C. set to bring on board their seventh signing?
In an interview with Ecuadorian paper “La Republica,” defender Andres Mendoza confirmed his arrival to the 20th MLS franchise.
“It will be really nice to be over there,” the Ecuadorian centerback said. “I know it will be a big change, but I hope to do things well.”
According to the report, Mendoza will stay with his current club, Universidad Catolica, through December before making a move stateside.
When contacted about the report, an NYCFC spokesperson issued “no comment” on the signing.
Mendoza, 25, has spent the past three years with Universidad Catolica, joining the club in Serie B before becoming starter the past two seasons for the promoted side. Measuring 6’2″, the Guayaquil product provides an imposing and versatile presence on the backline; two vital elements to the success of an MLS centerback. His work on defense was a major contributor to the team’s qualification towards this year’s Copa Libertadores. He has also played the role of defensive midfielder as well.
