The roster building continues for the New York Cosmos — and their latest acquisition may fill in a key need for the club.

EoS has learned that the Cosmos have acquired USL striker Irvin Herrera on a year-long loan from St. Louis FC. No further details of the transaction were revealed at the time of this report. However, both St. Louis and the Cosmos are expected to confirm the news within the next 24 hours.

Herrera, 25, is an El Salvadorian international who previously featured for Santa Tecla in his home country. He scored 24 goals in 46 appearances over two seasons before joining St. Louis, where his productivity continued. Herrera scored 14 goals in 26 matches, good for third in the USL scoring charts. He joins fellow El Salvador international Andres Flores with the club.

Herrera will have a Herculean task ahead of him. The Cosmos, who have traditionally struggled with consistency on the front line, have lost Yasmani Duk, Jairo Arrieta and Juan Arango during this tumultuous offseason. He will be the 15th member signed to the club this offseason — and the first striker on the books.

Here is a highlight package of the striker in action:
