The New York Cosmos announced Monday morning the re-signing of backup goalkeeper, Brian Holt.

Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Brian is an excellent goalkeeper,” said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese. “Last season he showed his ability on a constant basis, and he earned his spot on this team. He has worked hard to be here.”

With Jimmy Maurer firmly in place of the starting role, Holt was limited to a single league appearance in a 3-2 Cosmos victory over the Carolina RailHawks at Hofstra’s Shuart Stadium. He also made an appearance during the team’s historic match against Cuba, spelling Maurer in the second half of a 4-1 victory on June 2nd.

Prior to arriving in New York, Holt featured as a backup keeper with the Philadelphia Union. He also competed for two Union development affiliates: the Harrisburg City Islanders in the USL and Reading United in PDL. In 2012, the Creighton University product helped Harrisburg reach the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup.
