Cosmos Bring Back Andrea Mancini

Attacker Andrea Mancini has inked a new deal to return to the New York Cosmos for the upcoming North American Soccer league season.

The 24-year-old signed with the Cosmos during last year’s Fall Season campaign but made just a few appearances on the team’s gameday roster in the final weeks of the season. His only competitive minutes for the Cosmos came in the team’s 4-0 rout of Miami FC when he entered as a substitutes in the dying moments of the match.

“We expect Andrea to compete for playing time this season,” said Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese. “He will add depth to our roster and will look into contributing to our overall progress this season.”

Sticking with one club has been a difficult task for Mancini, who has failed to record more than 15 appearances for any of the half dozen of teams he has been a member of during his career. Up until this point, the most notable thing about Mancini has been that he is the son of former Inter Milan and Italian national team manager Roberto Mancini.

After coming up in the youth systems of Inter Milan and Manchester City, Mancini went on to play in the lower leagues of Spain and Hungary before landing in Major League Soccer with D.C. United. While in D.C., Mancini only saw the field in the MLS side’s U.S. Open Cup loss to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.

“I am very happy to be rejoining a team with a winning mentality that has achieved so much in recent years,” commented Mancini. “I look forward to starting the preseason along with my former and new teammates.”
