The New York Cosmos picked up some useful depth with the addition of Gabriel Farfán on loan from Chiapas FC of Liga MX. The loan for the versatile Farfan is for the duration of the NASL Spring Season.

“He is a versatile player that can compete in many different positions for us. He brings with him valuable experience having played in North America and at the top level in Mexico. We welcome him to the club,” said Cosmos Head Coach and Sporting Director Giovanni Savarese.

Farfán, 27, made his professional debut with the Philadelphia Union in 2011 and stayed with the club for two more seasons after that, accumulating over 50 appearances while playing either as a defensive midfielder or on the left side of the back line.

Farfán was traded the now defunct Chivas USA midway through 2013. He only made 14 appearances for the club before being loaned out to Chiapas in 2014. Eventually he was sold outright to Chiapas and in total has 14 appearances for the club.

“I’m excited about this new challenge with the Cosmos,” Farfán said. “I’m excited to move back to the States and start working with the team in preparation for the season.”
