The New York Cosmos are saying goodbye to one of their reboot originals.

After three years and two championships as one of the anchors on the Cosmos backline, veteran fullback Hunter Freeman is set to join Miami FC.

AS.com broke the story late this afternoon. EoS can independently confirm the report.

Sources tell EoS that Miami FC enticed Freeman with a significant salary offer akin to past deals for the likes of Richie Ryan and Michael Lahoud. However, EoS could not confirm the exact transfer fee figure or salary number at the time of this report. The Cosmos will likely address the transfer on Thursday.

Freeman has been a stalwart with the Cosmos, appearing in 73 matches, starting 72, and adding three goals and six assists since August of 2013. He has also appeared in all four of the New York Cosmos’ postseason appearances.

Freeman will play his final match with the Cosmos Wednesday evening at Shuart Stadium as New York hosts Indy Eleven. He will then head to Miami on Thursday, where he will undergo a physical before his announcement.

Freeman will likely be eligible for selection against Puerto Rico FC this weekend.

Pretty cool of the Cosmos not to stand in the way of player earning a big contract. Again.

To bad what Miami did is against FIFA rules. They contacted and negotiated with Freemn with out notify the Cosmos. Hope NASL addresses this.
