The New York Cosmos’ global aspirations are bringing them to Hong Kong.

The club announced early Monday morning their participation in the Lunar New Year AET Cup, a one-off match against South China Football Team at Hong Kong Stadium on Thursday, February 19th at 3:30 p.m. local time.

“It’s going to be a tremendous experience out in Asia for our players and coaching staff,” Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese said in a club statement. “It’s great that we’ll be able to play South China Football Team there during the Lunar New Year period and all the festivities surrounding it.”

“We’re delighted that we have the opportunity to visit Hong Kong,” Cosmos Chief Operating Officer Erik Stover said. “We have an extensive preseason travel schedule planned for the team, which will be announced once logistics are finalized.”

EOS reported the Cosmos participation in an Asian tournament earlier this month.  The Cup is part of a wider preseason plan that will see New York feature on three continents, taking on a TBD South American club, a Central American club and finally, engaging in an extended preseason in either Florida or Arizona.

South China Football Team are 41 time champions of the Hong Kong First Division.  They currently sit in third place.
