Is this the return of Dax McCarty?

Only a month away, the United States Men’s National Team will meet in Southern California for 2017’s first training camp. January’s camp will consist of a lot of new faces as Bruce Arena takes the helm as the country’s manager for the first time since being appointed as Jurgen Klinsmann’s successor.

In a Facebook Live event held by U.S. Soccer as part of the Fan Friday Celebration, Arena covered a plethora of topics, including his thoughts on January’s camp; most importantly, what players he plans on calling to Carson, California on January 10.

We hope to announce our January camp in the near future, but you’re going to see many of the typical faces,” Arena said. “If I can give you a little bit of insight, a couple players that haven’t been around for a bit are going to be back in camp.

“An example would be Benny Feilhaber, Juan Agudelo, Gyasi Zardes, Darlington Nagbe, Jordan Morris, Chris Pontius, Dax McCarty, Keegan Rosenberry from Philadelphia, two center backs – Hedges and Zimmerman from Dallas and so on and so forth.”

Apart from the large amount MLS players listed, a notable stand out is New York Red Bulls midfielder Dax McCarty. Having already played five times for the USA between 2009 and 2011, a return to the international stage looks to be a possibility for the Red Bulls star.

McCarty has been a pivotal piece for Jesse Marsch and the New York Red Bulls through his time in Harrison. The captain has appeared in 169 matches for the Red Bulls notching 14 goals.
