U.S. Men’s National Team player DeAndre Yedlin will continue his career in the Premier League — just not with Tottenham.

Tuesday afternoon, Hotspur announced the deadline day, season-long loan of Yedlin to Sunderland.

“I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to play for a club with such great history,” Yedlin said. “I’ve heard fantastic things about Sunderland and the supporters from Claudio Reyna and Jozy Altidore. Claudio speaks very highly of Dick Advocaat from his time at Rangers.”

Yedlin, 22, featured in a single match for Tottenham last season, playing all of 11 minutes for the club. He joins a Sunderland side desperately in need of a quality fullback. The Black Cats are dead last in the Premier League table, giving up a league worst 10 goals through four matches, earning them the unsightly distinction of a league worst -4 goal differential.

Yedlin is currently in camp with the USMNT. Jurgen Klinsmann’s men will play two international friendlies against Peru and Brazil during the FIFA break.
