Ronald Zubar’s injury issues have returned.

Shortly before the New York Red Bulls took on DC United at RFK Stadium, the Red Bulls revealed Zubar would not be in the starting XI or the traveling 18 due to a training ground injury.

Red Bulls Communications Director Jason Baum later explained that the injury occurred in training late in the week.

Zubar has been cursed with injury issues since joining New York last season. The former Wolverhampton centerback missed 24 matches last year. With his ineligibility against DC United on Friday, Zubar has already missed four matches with injury and one match due to suspension out of a possible 11 encounters this year.

With Damien Perrinelle still recovering from injury and Karl Ouimette on the mend from an assault during this weekend’s Red Bulls II, Pittsburgh Riverhounds match, head coach Jesse Marsch elected to start Chris Duvall at the centerback spot alongside newcomer Aurelien Collin against DC United.

New York lost the match 2-0 due in large part to the club’s defensive blunders.

There is no word on the severity of Zubar’s injury at the time of this report.
