Red Bulls sign draft pick Manolo Sanchez

HARRISON, N.J. –It’s official: the New York Red Bulls have signed 2015 fourth-round draft pick Manolo Sanchez to an MLS contract, the club announced today.

Per league rules, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Manolo came into camp and simply earned this,” said Red Bulls sporting director Ali Curtis. “He has potential and he’s shown that he is willing to work hard and learn what we’re trying to do here.”

Sanchez,23, is a Clemson product selected by New York with the 79th overall pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. The Philadelphia native spent three years at Clemson after transferring from Louisville.  He scored three goals as a senior and notched six assists (tied for team lead), adding to his Clemson career totals which include 10 goals and 15 assists through 65 appearances.

“Manolo has impressed us from early on,” said Red Bulls head coach Jesse Marsch in a club statement. “He’s a big, strong guy that runs well and has put himself in good positions. He has demonstrated that he’s physically and mentally able to play the way we want to play.”

Sanchez scored the lone goal against Oklahoma City  Energy FC  earlier this preseason.

The New York Red Bulls kick off the 2015 season this Sunday, March 8, at Sporting Kansas City, at 7:00 p.m. ET.
