New York Red Bulls select Chris Duvall, Eric Stevenson in MLS SuperDraft

The New York Red Bulls fortified their defense and midfield with their two second round picks, taking right back Chris Duvall with the 22nd pick and Eric Stevenson at 34 overall.

Duvall, 22, is a 5’10”, 150 lb. right back out of Wake Forest. Described as a pacy defender with a penchant for getting forward, Duvall represents the kind of break-through fullback talent the Red Bulls have been searching for this offseason. That is not to say he will find many minutes this year, but he does fit into the system Petke hopes to instill and could get starting minutes in New York’s multi-front season, either during U.S. Open Cup play or CONCACAF Champions League.

Stevenson, an Akron product, is a wide midfielder – and a chance pick by New York. He didn’t feature in the MLS Combine but remained on the Red Bulls radar throughout the process. According to Red Bulls coach Mike Petke, Red Bull scouts were high on Stevenson and hope that their flier pays dividends.
