East Rutherford, NJ— Ecuador got the result it needed to qualify for the Copa America Centenario quarterfinals Sunday evening at MetLife Stadium.

Enner Valencia and Jaimen Ayovi each scored in the first half as Ecuador defeated Haiti 4–0. The win gives Ecuador five points and a plus-four goal difference. That guarantees Ecuador’s passage into the quarterfinals since Peru and Brazil play each other and are both on four points, with Peru only holding a plus-one goal difference.

Ecuador will play the US Men’s National Team Thursday in Seattle.

Ecuador did not waste any time looking for the goals they needed. Wingers Antonio Valencia and Jefferson Montero frequently burned the Haitian fullbacks while forwards Enner Valencia and Ayovi stretched their center backs. Ecuador found the opener in the eleventh minute when Christian Noboa split the Haitian defense with a through ball that Enner Valencia slid underneath Johny Placide.

Ecuador added a second nine minutes later with Enner Valencia sprinting passed the Haitian defense and in on goal. Ayovi joined him and, as Placide rushed out, Valencia squared for Ayovi who finished into the empty net. Noboa facilitated both goals with killer passes from midfield.

Noboa turned finisher to give Ecuador their third twelve minutes into the second half with a well-taken half volley off of Montero’s cross. Antonio Valencia finished the scoring in the 78th minute after Enner Valencia received a through ball into the area and squared for Antonio Valencia as Placide rushed out.

Haiti had their best chance in the first half when Mechack Jerome headed a corner kick off the crossbar. Though the Haitians were competitive throughout the match recording three shots on target. They finish the tournament with no points and one goal scored.
