New York Cosmos Sign Entire Technical Staff to Extensions

The New York Cosmos are keeping intact the bench that helped lead them to the Spring Season title, combined points title and Soccer Bowl victory in 2015.

The club revealed today that Assistant Coaches Alecko Eskandarian and Carlos Llamosa, Goalkeeper Coach Guillermo Valencia and Fitness Coach Luis Gutierrez have all signed contract extensions.

Assistant Sporting Director Luke Sassano has also been promoted to the Technical Director position.

“These men have played a huge part in the success we have seen over the last few years,” said Cosmos Head Coach Giovanni Savarese. “Individually they have all achieved great things in their careers and together we plan to achieve even more success for this club.”

Eskandarian, Llamosa and Valencia all joined the Cosmos ahead of their first season in the modern era NASL in 2013. The Cosmos took the league by storm that year, capturing both the Fall Season crown and the Soccer Bowl trophy.

“Our coaches form one of the best technical staff groups in the country,” noted Cosmos Chief Operating Officer, Erik Stover. “Every one of our backroom staff members has great experience within soccer domestically and abroad. What they have achieved in such a short amount of time is remarkable and I’m very pleased that they remain with this club,” he added.

Eskandarian, who also claimed an MLS CUP and MLS Cup MVP honors during his playing days with D.C. United, took on a heavier workload with the Cosmos in 2015 as he became the first head coach the club’s NPSL reserve squad, Cosmos B. The reserves took home a title of their own in their inaugural season, defeating Chattanooga FC 3-2 in extra time of the championship final.

Gutierrez began 2015 as a part of the Cosmos B training staff, but he quickly ascended to the role of Fitness Coach for the first in June.

Alright, cosmos talk or attention will never end as long as nycfc and red bull exist, and of course MLS and nasl.
So let’s be honest, will cosmos join MLS by 2020.
    Anything Can happen……
Look at MLS expansion. Miami will be the 24th team and MLS expansion only gets hotter.
    25. If San Diego gets it together, they will get a spot, if not Sacramento but Sacramento is a very tough position.
    26. Same thing, if Vegas or Austin get something together they will be very good cities and San Antonio is in a very tough position.
    27. St.louis has one foot in, all they need is MONEY PEOPLE, if not count in Charlotte.
    28. If st.louis is not in and Charlotte get in, then Detroit is in?

I will say it again, Cosmos should entertain thought of purchasing a portion of Redbull (they are not exactly setting the world on fire)…rebrand that sportdrink soccer team with a team/name rich in history in NJ and NY. Zero chance of cosmos entering MLS……league is not that important in the NY sports market.

San Diego would be great addition as well as Sacremento (either or)
St. Louis is the right size market for soccer

      Avoid Detroit at all costs.

Tampa should be re-visited with right ownership group, not a league owned team.

Vegas most likely will not get a team. They had soccer-specific stadium ready to be funded and Garber said no thank you. But there’s another group trying so well see
