Everton Boss Moyes Approached Thierry Henry Over Loan Deal

It is no secret that Everton have been desperate for a goal scorer this season. The side has managed an unsightly 14 goals in 15 matches in the Premiership and is scoreless in their past two defeats. With that in mind, Toffees boss David Moyes sought out New York Red Bulls captain Thierry Henry to fill the gaps.

Moyes’ approach came before this weekends match against Arsenal (another scoreless 1-0 result for the Blues) where he found himself speaking to Henry who was there as part of the Gunner’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Several reports out of England claim Moyes offered Henry a David Beckham-esque short term loan deal in order to land one of the greatest goal scorer’s in the history of the Prem. and shore up his offensive woes in one stroke.

“I already asked him (Henry) on the way in,” the Everton boss told reporters. “I asked him, he’ll tell you; if he wants a game let me know.”

“We’re trying (to score more goals), we’re looking around the club to see if we can solve that,” he continued. “We have done it with some young players and tried to look at other solutions. It’s a manager’s job to find it if you can’t get it from anywhere else.”

This wouldn’t be Moyes first dip into Major League Soccer’s designated player pool; Landon Donovan made a short term loan deal last season and was a stand out in his brief time playing for the Blues.

  • Danny

Henry won’t go out on loan to Everton long term, short term, one game, 45 mins. If he goes out on loan anywhere it’ll be Arsenal but that’s already been ruled out. He has no reason to go abroad for loan… He’s done with the French national team, and has zero left to prove. So I highly doubt he goes on loan anywhere.

  • I completely agree. It’s more of a condemnation of Everton than anything – Saha has scored all of ONE goal all season. They need a striker to swoop in for the rescue. Maybe they should tap Donovan again …
