DON’T RELY ON THE CAVALRY JUST YET
This year’s Red Bulls could have easily earned the nickname “the walking wounded.” From the very first game of the season until today, New York has not been able to field a healthy 18.
Even when players can come back, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are 100% ready to go. Jan Gunnar Solli is a prime example. The returning Norwegian was torched on two of the three goals. Manning his customary right back position, he struggled to find his rhythm and lacked the kind of two way potency which has made him a critical component on the defensive line.
There is clamoring for the return of various stars to the lineup; Teemu Tainio, Rafa Marquez, Brandon Barklage and others. Just remember; the chances that they will come back in top form are very slim.

Excllent piece. Agree with Henry. This is good in the end. Nice little wake up call just before two extremely important games against Houston. Hopefully, the Dynamo come in overly confident next week. (just a heads up and not trying to nitpick, but Dax didn’t get a red. He’s out for yellow card accumulation)
Amazing. I had edited that earlier .. or at least I thought I did! Thanks for the catch Allen!
you also for got to add there worst of D needs to be fixed if they plan on a win for the MLS Cup cleary this team can’t stop anyone from scoreing
Lesson 6 the season is not over. Once healthy this team will be a juggernaut.
I think so too, I hope so, BUT, what if they never get 100 percent healthy? All teams are rarely 100 percent.
Team def snakebit but law of averages says they have to get healthy sometime right?
I hope so. Seems like DJ Solli was pretty healthy in that recording studio. Can NYRB STOP promoting that shit. So embarrassing.
See my post from earlier. Besides those points, maybe the best team really is LAG. They went on the road, to FCD, without Donovan, without Beckham, used the 2 Brasilians in the midfield, and put a professional 90 minutes in and walked away 1 to 0. That is what you expect from NYRB v. Montreal and we did not. So, my worries are, will the team ever stop using the excuse of injuries, different line-ups, etc. Such lame excuses. What about a 4-4-2-1…Cooper up top, Henry left, Le Toux right. Cahill and McCarty. Lade and Solli. Back four, Hogie, Conde, Pearce, Barklage. DMART, design the line-up. I know Dax is out next game, so maybe put TT if healthy, or go with Lindpere?
Does anyone know if D.J. Solli has ever heard of Niall Quinns Disco Pants or Cheer Up Peter Reid?
I hate Nassi Syssi. I knew he was going to score…they sent him right over to DJ Solli and said spin his record round.
Dave I am impressed you had 5 things to take from that game. I thought it was just one to ignore and say delayed exhaustion from the week before. Hopefully the team can take from it we need to work and fight in every game. Has Solli played a worse game as a Red Bull?
Any of the other games shown that night were more interesting to watch than the Red Bull game (LA / Olympics Brazil-NZ US-Columbia)
The biggest lesson learned: Solli should NOT play right back.
