Whether it’s home or away, the New York Red Bulls are simply dominating the competition.
For the third match in a row, New York takes home three points while steamrolling past the opposition. This week, the victim was played by fellow Eastern Conference dweller, the Columbus Crew, who fell in convincing fashion 4-1 while playing host to the traveling Red Bulls. The victory gives New York sole ownership of second place in the East, trailing only Sporting KC who are off to a red hot 5-0 start.
From Henry and Cooper, to a lackadaisical second half, there is plenty to talk about coming out of this match-up. EoS took some notes and put down our findings as we deliver to you our Five Lessons Learned from this week’s dominating performance.

The sixth lesson learned is that New York won this game without Conde, Taino and Lindpere. Usually when RBNY misses that many starters on the road they play with no confidence. But this time Ballouchy, Keel, and McCarty showed that RBNY finally have more than 11 players they can rely on. Especially Ballouchy and McCarty are finally showing the New York fans base why they were brought in by Soler. If New York is able to fix their problems in the back they are going to be a very dangerous team this season.
Great point Erik. Duly noted.
Don’t mean to sound too much like Shep, but the midfield was so good this game – at least for 60 min. The Crew had no idea how to get into their attacking 3rd. Just lobbing it down field. It was great. And, as usual, I wish Backe would’ve used some subs when the game was well won. Just get some guys some minutes. Lade, Pallson, Barrajo. Get them out there. Get them tested. Get their confidence up. Lord knows our depth will be tested again this year. Lastly, pains me to admit it, but Roy Miller looked pretty good. Good touch. Good passes. Calm on the ball. The anti-Holgersson. Great win. San Jose game looking to be a HUGE one.
What happened to my comment? Meara def deserved better. Columbus defense terrible. And cooper? Amazing. Can’t believe I was against this guys signing….
Road win, without some key players, scoring continues, Ballouchy best game as RB?, Joel looked hungry when subbed in.
Lack of subs is bizarre? – perfect game to give people experience who you will need later. Can someone ask Backe about this in an interview?
I wish they had subbed in and showed a killer spirit. Don’t want to let people back into games that you don’t need to.
The seventh lesson learned is that the traveling RB fans can cause a bigger ruckus than the hometown fans. As someone posted on Twitter during the game (or was that over at MF), there was some pretty dyslexic drumming from the cow fans.
SO MANY LESSONS! lol
Gotta give that nod to Viking Army and the SW … 70-80 traveling fans off to Cowtown in early April – not exactly a joy ride. Well represented for sure.
While it would be unrealistic to expect Herny and Cooper to kepp up the torrid pace they are on, it certainly puts to rest the notion we are “doomed” without Luke Rodgers. I would be nice to get hime back, but maybe this will give Juan Agudelo a chance to get some minutes once he gets fit.
The only nit-pick and it has been noted by others is the play of Holgersson. He has cost the team several goals and cost Meara a clean sheet this past weekend. I think when Conde comes back, Keel should stay at centerback with hime. Let’s not forget how effective he was last season with Mendes in the middle.
I also agree that more subs should have been used. However Shelp did make a good point for keep them in the wholematch during the broadcast. It was looking like Conor Lad was in line for some minutes in place of Miller, but Roy has played very well the last couple of weeks. Maybe he heard footsteps!
