RED BULLS FINALLY STAND UP TO SPORTING KC
This was perhaps the most encouraging lesson of the night for New York.
One can argue Sporting KC did not display the drive from their last two encounters but remember – the Supporters Shield was still within their grasp. Credit New York for slowing down the beast of the East. The Red Bulls defense nullified their famed wing attack while simultaneously allowing another new look midfield in Dax McCarty (on the left!), Teemu Tainio, Tim Cahill and Lloyd Sam to link up and expose the Roger Espinoza-less Sporting KC gut.
And don’t let the scoreline fool you – had it not been for Jimmy The Cat in net, this scoreline could have been a different story. Just ask Hans Backe.
“Over 90 minutes, very intense, a lot of energy, many, many chances to score and of course we should have won the game, 3-0, 4-0,” Backe said postgame. “That should have been the normal result.”
It may not have been the “normal” result, but it was still quite impressive.

I really don’t care how it happened …. we are in!!!!! THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS!aaaa
ICYMI: Five Lessons Learned: Red Bulls 0-0 Sporting KC http://t.co/LusJEt5d #RBNY #SKC
Had you told me Friday I’d walk out of RBA feeling good about anything but 3 pts I would have said no way, but we played very well and Nielsen had a helluva game to stop us.
Five Lessons Learned: Red Bulls 0-0 Sporting KC http://t.co/4b9ufS33 -cant complain! Need to win in Philly so we don’t have to play in #RBNY
The fact is, the game against Philly, is in essence a playoff game. I would be shocked if the team does not feel this way.
As JPon 87 states, they want to win the Philly game to avoid a wild card spot, and the good thing is, New York controls its fate; they are guaranteed the #3 spot in the playoffs with a win against Philly. So even though this Saturday is the last game of the regular season, the fact is the playoffs really start this Saturday for New York!
