NEW YORK CITY KNOWS JACK

Move over Poku … New York City is Jack Harrison’s town now.

The teenage sensation built upon his growing legend with a magnificent performance on the weekend, scoring the opening goal and nailing the assist in NYCFC’s victory over the Red Bulls. His performance served as an exclamation point to a series of positive performances that have seen Harrison nail two goals and two assists through five appearances on the season.

But as I observed in the Guardian this week, it isn’t just Harrison’s singular play that has made him a hero for NYCFC. In many ways, Harrison is the missing ingredient NYCFC have been searching for since their inception. Hard to believe, but the team that throws money at their problems may have stumbled upon their solution within the college ranks. No winger has been able to play as consistently and dangerously alongside David Villa as the 19-year-old Englishman. That includes the hot-and-cold Tommy McNamara.

After battling injury, Harrison has lived up to his MLS Draft hype — and there is no telling what heights he will reach next.
