Five Thoughts on the New York Soccer Weekend

Well, that was something now wasn’t it?

The Hudson River Derby made international headlines this weekend as the Red Bulls beat New York City FC 4-1 at Red Bull Arena, taking home bragging rights for the second year in a row.

But the victory was secondary to the drama of the match. Marsch vs. Vieira. Felipe vs. Lampard. The officiating. The scuffles. The emotions. In every way, this Derby grew of age on the weekend, making an indelible mark on the lives of fans from both sides of the Hudson.

This is one of those weeks where I wish this column had more than five points to it. But lets keep with the format.

Here are my five thoughts on the weekend:

lolss every time i read their articles looks like more of a RED BULLS page… which is OK. Change the name of the page.

Probably because they’ve won the Supporters Shield 2 of the last 3 years, won 5 out of 6 derbies outscoring the blue team 18-5 and are the only NYC area team to play in a real soccer stadium.

Alex – my Five Thoughts after the NYCFC win:

May be as Blue as it comes.

I have no horse in this race. Neither do my writers. We just tell the stories that need to be told. Look at our coverage today – PLENTY of NYCFC content. Try to find someone that covers The Pigeons like we do.

Just want to make that clear Al.

Don’t call them the pigeons. Let them earn their own nickname. Like the Smurfs.

        • slowleftarm

And they still draw five times more than the Cosmos. Why don’t you go back to worrying about the game against Edmonton?

          • William

The NY EMPIRE of Soccer ahahahahahaahahahahahahaha

yea why don’t u win a championship once every 20 years ? The Harrison side are the Rangers of the MLS hahaahahahahahahaha Enjoy !
