Finally, we have the story of the weekend.

In a moment that has made international news, Canadian defender Karl Ouimette took a wicked, cleats up stomp to the back from Riverhounds forward Romeo Parkes as he was walking away from the field after a red card infraction.

The incident left Ouimette immobile, requiring a stretcher to take him to the ambulance for tests.

Fortunately, Ouimette was OK after the incident, suffering a contusion. MRI results are still pending.

The USL responded quickly, suspending Parkes for the year. The Riverhounds also responded, terminating his contract altogether.

The one element missing in all of this is police intervention. Now, Ouimette and Parkes met after the match and reportedly hashed out the entire affair. However, such a cowardly act would be worthy of police involvement on any street in America. A soccer field should protect you when it comes to assault.

Perhaps Ouimette refused to call the authorities. That may be the case. However, if anyone deserves scrutiny, it is Parkes. And if it means the involvement of law endorsement, so be it.
