FMR Cosmos’ Haji Wright Scores Twice in Debut for Schalke U-19s

Former New York Cosmos forward and U.S. youth international Haji Wright had a memorable debut with Schalke o4’s U-19 squad on Saturday, only one day removed from the official announcement that he had signed with the Bundesliga heavy hitter.

The 18-year-old Wright picked up a brace to help lift his team to a 3-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach’s U-19 team. He opened up the scoring in the 15th minute by getting on the end of a cross from the left side of the box. The youngster then capped off his team’s day with a nice bit of shielding on the ball inside the box before turning and firing off a shot into the net in the 80th minute.

Wright has been training with Schalke since departing the Cosmos back in December, but was prohibited from signing a contract with the club until his 18th birthday. He made three first team appearances for the Cosmos in the NASL and was a regular contributor to the club’s reserve team that won the NPSL title last year.
