Former Cosmos, Rapids player Joseph Nane signs with Scorpions

After a brief hiatus, former New York Cosmos midfielder Joseph “JoJo” Nane is back in the North American Soccer League.

The San Antonio Scorpions announced the acquisition of Nane Friday morning, capping off their 21-man roster for the 2015 season with the 2013 NASL Soccer Bowl winner.

“Nane is a player we’ve admired for a while and we’re certainly familiar with his ability from playing against him during his time with the Cosmos,” said Head Coach Alen Marcina in a club statement. “He is a fierce competitor with championship experience, he is powerful yet technical with the ball, and he adds defensive bite to the center of the park for us.

“We’re delighted to welcome Nane to the Scorpions as someone who fits right in line with the vision we’re building towards this season.”

Nane, 28, has a respectable resume, featuring with both the Cosmos and MLS sides Colorado Rapids and Toronto FC. He made 30 appearances with the Cosmos in his 18 months with the club, contending for minutes with both Marcos Senna and Danny Szetela for most of his time in New York.

Praised by Senna for his work rate and physicality, Nane brings an imposing presence to the Scorpions midfield.

San Antonio face the Cosmos on May 23rd at Shuart Stadium.
