Former Sounders 2 Midfielder Aaron Long Signs with NYRB II

Aaron Long Red Bullls II

New York Red Bull II has signed 23-year-old USL veteran defensive midfielder Aaron Long.

Long, who played at UC Riverside before being drafted by the Portland Timbers in 2014, spent some time with the PDL side FC Tuscon up until being drafted. Despite being picked by the Timbers, he never made an appearance for the side. Instead, he was loaned to both Sacramento Republic FC and Orange County Blues FC. After a combined five appearances, Long found his stride with Seattle Sounders FC 2, where he played in every USL game for the side in 2015.

Long also trialed with the Red Bulls’ senior team this offseason.

The signing of Long shows the team’s interest in filling the holes left by the departure of Bolu Akinyode and Andrew Jean-Baptiste. Devon “Speedy” Williams provided a dynamic spark from the midfield but the team will need to solidify themselves defensively and Long’s record in that position shows he is capable of filling that need.

New York Red Bull II will play their first game against Toronto FC II on March 26th at Red Bull Arena.
