Frank Lampard returned in New York City FC’s win last Sunday after missing four games to a calf injury. Though he’s struggled with calf injuries throughout his time in MLS, Lampard told the BBC that he’s loving his time in America.

Lampard played 17 minutes against Columbus Crew SC and has been training regularly throughout this week. He enters the playoffs with 12 goals in 19 appearances this season and is expected to be involved in Sunday’s First Leg of the Eastern Conference Semifinal at Toronto FC. Head coach Patrick Vieira said he’s going to be mindful of how Lampard reacts to training this week but there’s nothing to suggest that he wouldn’t be available to start.

Lampard turned around the perception of his time at NYCFC with his performances this season. Booed when he made his first appearance of the season in May to receiving a proclamation from the Mayor’s Office in September, Lampard has made an incredible turnaround this season, proving to be one of the most important pieces in the NYCFC roster.

“If it ended tomorrow, it’s been an amazing experience,” Lampard said to the BBC. “I was able to help us get towards the playoffs but also as a life experience…It definitely broadens your horizon. I definitely feel a bit wiser for coming and actually living in a different country and working.”
