Frank Lampard’s short and long-term plans may be getting clearer.

According to New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira in interviews with WFAN’s Glenn Crooks and FS1’s Julie Stewart-Binks, Lampard could be in the gameday roster for NYCFC’s matches against Toronto FC this Wednesday and the New York Red Bulls Saturday. Lampard traveled with the team for their match against the Portland Timbers.

While Lampard may be nearing a return to the field, he may be making plans for after he hangs up his boots as well.

Speaking to The Sunday Express, outgoing Chelsea FC manager Guus Hiddink said Lampard visited Chelsea to receive a second opinion on his injured calf. Though Lampard asked to see Chelsea’s physios when they were free, Hiddink said he invited him to stop by while they were working with the rest of the squad.

“I said, no, no,” Hiddink said. “You, [Lampard] are one of this family and we would love you to come when everyone is here.

“The youngsters loved it. They can learn a lot from  him and can accelerate their careers by having an eye on someone big like Lampard.”

While speculation runs rampant, it is important to note that Hiddink did not indicate to the Express that Lampard was interested in returning to Chelsea as a player.
