July belonged to Frank Lampard as he scored six goals to lead New York City FC to four wins on the month.

NYCFC sit in first place as a result and Lampard’s contributions were rewarded with him being voted MLS Player of the Month.

Lampard has eight goals in eleven appearances this season after missing the start of the season with an injured calf muscle. He scored in three consecutive matches and then recorded the first hat-trick in NYCFC history during last Saturday’s match against the Colorado Rapids. NYCFC are 6-1 when Lampard scores or records an assist and have ascended to the top of the Eastern Conference with six wins in their last eight matches.

Lampard won with over 32 percent of the vote, beating out Portland Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson and Orlando City SC midfielder Kevin Molino. He is with the rest of the squad in San Jose ahead of their match against the Earthquakes Friday evening.
