Gedion Zelalem joins Dutch side VVV Venlo on loan

United States Men’s International youth product Gedion Zelalem is set to join Dutch second tier side VVV Venlo on loan for the remainder of the 2016-17 Eerste Divisie season.

The 19-year-old joins the Venlo after accepting a new contract extension with Arsenal FC that will see the Washington, D.C. native contracted to the Premier League club for the foreseeable future.

Zelalem originally joined the North London side in 2013 after being scouted by head Arsenal scout Daniel Karbssiyon during the world renown¬†Dallas Cup tournament. Making a name for himself in the club’s U-17 squad, Zelalem earned a spot with the senior team in 2014.

The 19-year-old midfielder has yet to be able to break into the main Arsenal team, only making two League Cup games this season.

Zelalem’s move to VVV Venlo will be the second loan of his career. The United States product spent the 2015-16 season with Scottish side Rangers FC, where he appeared in 21 matches.
