Once looked at as a fizzling phenom, Julian Green has once again found his spark — and Bayern Munich have taken notice.

After showing brightly for the U.S. Men’s National Team, Bayern boss Carlo Ancelotti has tipped Julian Green for senior team minutes:

It is a phoenix-like resurrection to the once-floundering career of Green. Following his triumphant goal against Belgium in the 2014 World Cup knockout stage, Green has endured an up-and-down career. Disappearing from the national team as well as riding the bench for Bayern Munich over the past couple of years, the Tampa Bay Native has frustratingly lost his 2014 hype, causing to forget about Green’s potential and capability. Add to that the current success of 18-year-old Borussia Dortmund midfielder Christian Pulisic and the Bayern Munich product has fallen off the radar.

Nevertheless, with a shock return to the United States’ National Team’s lineup over the recent international break, Green reminded fans and pundits of his potential. Scoring two goals in two matches over the break against New Zealand and Cuba, the 19-year-old showed immense drive and character — something that has not been typically attached to the midfielder over the years.

Following Tuesday night’s match, United States manager Jurgen Klinsmann commented on Green’s performance, applauding the young midfielder’s resurgence.

“He scored another nice goal today but overall he’s becoming more mature, he’s becoming stronger, he’s far more confident. It’s really nice to see his development.”

He continued, “He wants to break into that team [Bayern]. He wants to get minutes there and he has people like Ribéry and Robben in front of him. But the way he presented himself these 10 days from the first training session on, where we said ‘ooh.’

“He made a big step forward. I think it just becomes more personality. When you deal with [players] that age you have to give them their up and downs and just hope that they mature one day at a time.”

Green’s recent international performances did not go unnoticed at the club level. Bayern Munich head coach Carlos Ancelotti applauded Green on his recent performances, claiming that the 21-year-old will earn chances in the near future. With an upcoming loaded schedule for Bayern Munich consisting of five matches in fourteen days, Ancelotti’s promise seems doable. Comprising of Champions League, Bundesliga, and DFB Cup matches, Green can be in line to represent his club sometime within the next two weeks.
