The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team was a defensive nightmare against Spain in their FIFA World Cup opener. With France awaiting them for their second of three matches, things certainly looked uncertain for coach Tab Ramos’ men.

It seems they learned their lesson quickly.

While France tested the U.S. backline repeatedly and earned a penalty for their efforts, the Yanks would not fall apart. Instead, a total team defensive effort repelled Les Bleus and allowed the young Yanks to push back. Their tenacity was awarded in the 84th minute with Daniel Cuevas collecting a loose set piece ball and slamming a shot home past Alphonse Areola for the game tying goal.

The draw sets up yet another international showdown against Ghana in the group final this Thursday with the winner all but guaranteed a spot in the Round of 16.
