Bayern Munich will be calling New York City home on April 1st — and that is no joke.

Germany’s most celebrated sporting franchise is aiming to leave a footprint in the growing American market, setting up their first overseas subsidiary, FC Bayern Muenchen LLC, in Manhattan starting April Fools Day.

Colorado-born Rudolf Vidal, a former Bayern youth academy product, will be the Managing Director of the small, three person firm charged with the “internationalization drive in North America, growing the FC Bayern brand, developing networks and acquiring new co-operation partners.”

“I’m delighted to be taking on this substantial and exciting assignment on behalf of FC Bayern,“ Vidal said through the team’s release. “Together with my co-workers, we will tackle the tasks assigned to us rapidly and with great determination. We want to help in consolidating and continuing to develop the club’s international reputation.“

Munich has made their fair share of trips to New York and the United States as a whole over the years. Currently, they will play the foil in this year’s MLS All Star game in Portland, Oregon. They will also participate in another international friendly, likely in the New York area.

“As a US-born American national, Rudolf Vidal is an ideal appointment for FC Bayern thanks to his long years of experience in sports, media and marketing,” commented Jörg Wacker, FC Bayern board director for internationalization and strategy. “We’re sure the great commitment and expertise of Rudolf Vidal and his team in New York will significantly advance Bayern’s internationalization program.“

Sounds like an office to make it easier to manage setting up friendlies and sponsors. Was hoping they were setting up an academy.
