Days after the U.S. Men’s National Team roster was released, San Jose Earthquakes’ striker Chris Wondolowski seemed to join the team out of the blue.

Now we know why.

Hamburg loanee Julian Green is once again battling health issues, this time nursing a rib injury that has forced him to leave USMNT camp ahead of Friday’s encounter against Ecuador.

USMNT boss Jurgen Klinsmann first announced his departure via Twitter Thursday morning:

US Soccer published their own release on Green’s status shortly there after.

Ironically, Green picked up the injury against his mother club, Bayern Munich, late last month.  He trained with the USMNT both Tuesday and Wednesday before it was decided he should continue his rehab instead.

Wondolowski will be the only addition to the USMNT roster, keeping their number at 21 for Landon Donovan’s farewell match against Ecuador.
