Sky Blue FC continue to bolster their team for the 2014 season.

The NWSL side announced today the signing of Japanese forward Nanase Kiryu, pending P-1 Visa approval and receipt of her international transfer certificate (ITC).

“Sky Blue FC is very pleased to add its first Japanese national team player,” technical director and head coach Jim Gabarra said. “We look forward to integrating her abilities into our club and seeing her adjustment to the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).”

Kiryu joins a formidable frontline led by Mexican international Monica Ocampo and Australian international, Lisa De Vanna. The duo accounted for 13 of the 29 Sky Blue goals last season. But if Kiryu’s previous work in Japan is any indication, she will be looking to challenge them both for minutes. The diminutive striker was a standout player in Japan’s first division with NTV Beleza and FC Komazawa prior to that, being named Best XI for 2013 with 14 goals in 28 matches.

“I’m looking forward to playing with my new teammates and competing with and against world-class talent,” Kiryu said. “I will strive to play my best in every game, and I want to score many goals for the team.”

Sky Blue begin their season April 12th on the road against FC Kansas City.
