New York City FC sign Javier Calle on season-long loan

NEW YORK – New York City FC continue their build up for the coming season, signing Colombian midfielder Javier Calle on a season-long loan.

“We are very pleased to bring Javier on board. He is a left-footed, versatile and creative player who I believe will adapt well to MLS and give us some different options in midfield. He has impressed both at club and international level and we are confident that he will continue to develop with us in New York.”

Calle, 23, is an Independiente Medellin player who has fallen into NYCFC’s focus for the better part of four months.  His loan deal comes with a club option to purchase by year’s end.  Details of that deal were not disclosed.

Calle is a Colombian youth international who was part of the U20 side which made the 2011 World Cup.  He scored six goals in 13 matches, helping Medellin to the 2014 Colombian Clausura tournament final.

“I’m very excited to join such an amazing club and have the opportunity to play for Coach Kreis. I’m looking forward to joining my talented new teammates and my goal is to help New York City FC to succeed as quickly as possible.”

He is currently with his new teammates in Manchester as they continue the next phase of preseason preparations.
