Former Portland Timbers FC defender Jorge Villafana has finally earned an opportunity to play with the United States Men’s National Team.

The 27-year-old defender posted early Wednesday morning on Instagram that he would be joining Bruce Arena and company for their January 29 international friendly match against Serbia in San Diego, California.

Villafana has made past appearances for the United States’ youth system but has yet to make an appearance for the senior team.

The Chivas USA product turned professional in 2007 with the Californian side, integrating himself as a pivotal cog for the now-dissolved MLS franchise. After the club’s falling out, Villafana joined the Portland Timbers where he won an MLS Championship. Following the 2015 MLS Cup win, the California native transferred to Liga MX side Santos Laguna, where he has made 26 appearances.

Rumors suggest that Villafana may be dealing with a falling out at the Mexican side; thus, allowing him to join Arena’s camp.
