When you score more goals than 80% of the teams in the league, you will surely get some kind of recognition.

That was the case with Juan Arango, who scored a brace in a statement 3-0 New York Cosmos victory over the Ottawa Fury.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the league,” Arango said. “Putting aside my two goals, I think the team played quite well. In the first half, it was about scoring goals, which I was fortunate to do with help from my teammates. In the second half, it was about maintaining the result, and we were up to the challenge.”

Arango broke a scoreless deadlock in the 36th minute, clinically slotting a Jairo Arrieta square ball for the lead. Two minutes later, Arango displayed his positional prowess, finding the ball off of a Romuald Peiser rebound and banging in his second goal of the match.

“Juan had a very good game, and he was smart in finding spaces and being able to get those balls in the right area in order to score,” said Cosmos head coach Giovanni Savarese. “He had two other chances on top of the goals, and they happened because he was very smart in the way he moved. It was very important for us to find those two goals in key moments to be able to control the match. He was huge for us.”

Here is video of Arango’s debut performance:

Deserved, but I’d argue Arrieta was more influential on the day for the Cosmos.

Along with Seba and Flores creating opportunities. Wait till Duk plays it will get better.
