If it were up to Drake, the club would always be going up on a Tuesday. Unfortunately for Julian Green, Hamburg SV didn’t quite get the memo.

On Tuesday, reports out Germany indicated that the 19-year-old winger was being demoted to Hamburg SV’s U-23 squad.

As first reported by the German publication Sport Bild, Green will be returning to the German fourth division commonly known as Regionalliga. The U.S. starlet is very familiar with this league, as he excelled in it coming through the ranks at Bayern Munich.

“He should impose,” said HSV Director of Professional Football in a translated interview with Sport Bild. “The U23 is not a garbage can, but the flagship of the training. ”

Green is currently on loan to Hamburg SV from Bayern Munich to gain first team minutes. Thus far in his loan spell, Green has only tallied five appearances with the Hamburg first team.

It is unclear if the German Super Club has the right to recall the player. If he is not recalled and remains with the Hamburg SV U-23’s in the fourth division, the player will not be in a professional league for the next few months.

What also becomes a talking point is Green’s spot on the US Men’s National Team in the coming months. While the left side of the field remains a position of weakness for the USMNT, newcomers such as Gyasi Zardes and Miguel Ibarra have made strong cases for future involvement.

Empire of Soccer will have more on this story as the situation develops.
